NUMBERS IN ENGLISH

In this lesson you are going to learn how to write and spell numbers in English. Like in other languages, the English numbers are various and different from one another both in writing and pronouncing. You should study this lesson repeatedly because you may not really remember it if you learn once. Repetitive learning is the key to reach your long-term memory.

1. CARDINAL AND ORDINAL NUMBERS

Cardinal numbers are the general numbers which have a function to determine the quantity of a number of objects. While the ordinal numbers specify the sequences of a numbers of objects.

Examples:

Cardinal Numbers: 3 (three), 6 (six), 100 (one/a hundred)
- There are three dogs running around the garden.
- I have 100 dollars.

Ordinal Numbers : 3rd (third), 6 (sixth), 100th (a hundredth)

- Ana got the third place in the match last week.

- I am the fourth child of five siblings.
